Caledon Rothesay was converted into a standard region from the Openspace sim Caledon Carntaigh, which had existed in Rothesay's position on the grid for two years prior to December 11, 2008. Gabrielle Riel named Caledon Rothesay; the term Rothesay coming from one of the family names in the current, actual world British Royal family's hertiage.
